After New Zealand and Iceland, Portugal will occupy the third place of the Global Peace Index (GPI). Five years ago, Portugal was in 16th place in the study carried out by the Institute for Economy and Peace, and since then it has been climbing the table, and last year it was already in fifth place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Portugal’s rise to third place, according to the Portuguese National newspaper \u00ab\u00a0O P\u00fablico\u00a0\u00bb who cites this report, reports on the improvement of 12 of the 23 GPI indicators, including political instability, internal conflicts, levels of violence and militarization of the 163 countries under analysis .<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Europe remains the most peaceful continent, with eight European countries in the top 11. However, the table presents, this year, changes in the positions that were conditioned by the terrorist activities that occurred in several countries.
